ConvertKit is an email marketing provider who focuses on content makers, creators, and artists. The main goal of ConvertKit is to help you earn a living online. They have strengthened their team with the legendary affiliate marketeer Pat Flynn. Pat has earned millions of dollars online. ConvertKit is an industry leader and known to be innovative but also to have premium pricing. That begs the question. Is ConvertKit worth it for YOU?
In today’s article you will learn:
- Features that make ConvertKit different
- Is the pricing reasonable?
- The Pros and Cons
- The verdict
After reading this ConvertKit review you will know whether ConvertKit is right for you. Will it help you create (more) revenue? Find out now and let’s start the review!
For who is ConvertKit?
ConvertKit is an email marketing and automation provider. They focus on creators, for example, this can be bloggers, artists, or video makers. It’s all centered around making a living online by building your own audience. The main goal is to transform your visitors into fans by the level of engagement you have with them.
Whether you want to convert social media followers, YouTube viewers, or blog readers, ConvertKit has tools in place to build a meaningful relationship with your followers. You can do this by making use of personalized content. In the next chapter, you will learn about the features ConvertKit has to offer.
Features that make ConvertKit different
So what can ConvertKit do for you? In this chapter, we are going to look deeper into all the features. What can you do with it and is it any good? Which features are killing it and which features are just bad. Let’s dive into it!
The landing page is the place where you want to give your visitor the right impression. A landing page is a singular page where you convert visitors to leads. Within one look at your landing page, your visitor should know what value you have to offer them.
ConvertKit offers free landing pages that are fully customizable and build within minutes. The designs look beautiful but that wouldn't necessarily be the reason why I would be interested. However, the collection of custom data, connection to an automation, and integration with other tools are reasons why we think the landing pages are brilliant.
Furthermore, you can:
- Customize the action to take when a customer fills in your form
- Automatically send messages per group. For instance, different messages for beginners than intermediates
- Get deep insights with the landing page reports. It’s a highly detailed reporting system
Tip: don’t offer or promote your product too obviously. Focus on what it is you can help your visitor with. You need to build trust before you can ask for money. Focus on what you can do for your visitor. It is about them.
Email sign up forms
It's essential for your business to build an email list. With an email list, you can engage with your audience, build trust, and eventually promote products or services. To get as many sign-ups as you can, it is important to have a responsive and conversion-focused email sign up form.
A couple of the email sign up features:
- You can make responsive signup forms
- Customizable designs
- GDPR compliant
Now we have, in my opinion, arrived at the weak spot of ConvertKit. The email editor is bad compared to the competition. The main problem is the lack of email and newsletter templates. You can adjust color, font, and button styles but that’s about it.
Another aspect we are really missing in the email designer is customer-ease. You can’t preview your email or spell-check it. That means you will have to do that in another tool which is more work. Overall it is kind of weird that the email designer is lacking so much. Mainly because all the other features are well-thought of and future proof.
There are two little plus sides of the email designer:
- The messaging is very clean. This means your consumer won’t be distracted and focus on your message
- It’s quick. You can create your email within a few minutes.
After a disappointing journey through the email designer, we now arrive at email marketing. And are you in for joy! This is where ConvertKit excels and provides the most value for you. The marketing report system is fantastic. It shows you a lot of data on how your audience engages with your emails. This means you can learn from the data and improve where needed.
- A couple of the best email marketing features:
- Add tags automatically based on your subscriber's website behavior
- Create customizable segments
- A/B testing to test different email templates on your audience
- Automate email funnels
With the email automation tool, you can literally set a path for your subscribers to follow. You can create automated funnels to convert your subscriber from visitor to customer. Or even from customer to fan! The automation tool is visually strong and easy to be used.
A few of the things you can do with the email automation tool:
- Create powerful email funnels
- The software will do most of the work
- The segment's your audience automatically
Convertkit has too many partners for me to write down. We will stick with the most important ones. Those are Shopify (eCommerce store platform), Teachable (software to create and sell online courses), and Crowdcast (a webinar & live-streaming platform for creators). The amount of partnerships is massive and they adding more and more software partners each month.
What I like about ConvertKit is the fact that they are always trying to innovate email marketing. In general, you can't use email marketing for direct sales but now there might be a way. At this moment, ConvertKit’s Commerce is in beta but it looks promising. With Commerce, you can directly sell your e-products via ConvertKit. Here you will find an introduction to Commerce by Sai, the product manager of ConvertKit.
ConvertKit demo & tutorial by Pat Flynn
Via this link you will find a video of Pat Flynn. An affiliate marketing expert who has made millions of dollars. He shows you exactly what you can do with ConvertKit in this demonstration. Furthermore, he will add his thoughts to the software. Important to know is Pat is a partner of ConvertKit. However, Pat Flynn is always looking for quality software. The fact that he chooses their software adds more trust and value to ConvertKit.
Is ConvertKit expensive?
In comparison to other email marketing providers, Convertkit is more expensive. The price of a paid plan starts at $29 per month. However, the marketing report system alone is worth the money. It gives you a lot of data about your subscriber. Even more importantly, you will be able to build a valuable email list. If you put in the work of setting up the funnels, your software will pay itself in multiples.
Does ConvertKit have a free plan?
Yes, there is a free plan. However, it isn’t as complete as some email marketing providers like SendinBlue. You can only manage up to 1.000 subscribers but on the plus side, you get unlimited traffic and landing pages & forms. It’s a great way to try ConvertKit but it's recommended to switch to the paid variant as soon as possible. The most important reason being the lack of an automation tool. So with the free plan, you won't be able to build funnels and email sequences.
What about the support system? The support system is very good in comparison to the competition. One of their biggest competitors is Mailchimp and Mailchimp doesn’t provide real support. Not only do you get support from ConvertKit but there is a live-chat! Something which is really rare in the software industry. Don’t want to chat? You can also just send an email to their support. The support is available from 8 am-8 pm EST during the normal working week and adjusted times during the weekend.
The Pros and Cons
Is ConvertKit worth it?
ConvertKit review conclusion
As an agency, we have been enjoying ConvertKit very much. The powerful automation software has the potential to earn you 6-figures in the right niche and by working hard. For bloggers and creators, this is the best email marketing provider out there. Especially with the new Commerce tool. All other businesses (from small to large businesses) can also benefit from using ConvertKit.
The email designer is the only let down in our opinion. The amount of templates is limited and not very customizable.
ConvertKit is more expensive than other email marketing providers. You pay a premium price but on the other hand, there is a lot of value in their software. Especially the marketing data you can extract from the software is worth every penny. It shows you exactly what is working and what is not. Furthermore, you can test different templates by the A/B testing feature.
Our verdict: ConvertKit is a good buy if you want to build an income online. Whether that is a full income or partly online, ConvertKit can help you convert visitors into customers. We rate it 4,3 stars out of 5 as an email marketing provider. It’s very powerful and effective with the only downside being the email designer.
